- Description: Cardinal Radio is a Registered Student Organization and student-run internet radio station at Saginaw Valley State University. Through this organization students can host their own radio shows, learn to work radio station equipment and programs, and plan and manage events. Cardinal Radio boasts a variety of student-run shows, including but not limited to Top 40 hits, heavy metal, country music, and theater show tunes. Even if there isn’t a student-run show playing, at any given moment, we’re always streaming music. Joining Cardinal Radio requires no previous radio experience or students to be a part of a certain major program at SVSU. This organization is an opportunity to learn the basics of radio broadcasting and networking. Cardinal Radio doesn’t require its members to have a show on our stream. We have a number of committees that help organize and manage events, DJing for events that other organizations that commission us, deal with training new deejays, and maintaining and troubleshooting problems with equipment and software. Cardinal Radio has hosted and DJed a number of events. A staple event that we host is our annual Battle of the Bands, where we bring in local music acts to compete for bragging rights and prize money. Historically, we have donated the revenue from this event to the Rainbow Connection, a Michigan non-profit that grants wishes for sick children. Our organization is available to deejay events for other organizations ranging from simply playing music for the football team’s weight lifting practices to Coop’s Birthday Party, an event to celebrate Saginaw Valley’s mascot. Description of Organization:
Cardinal Radio is a streaming internet radio station created by students at Saginaw Valley State University.
We let individuals come up with the content for their shows. Meaning, we have full creative control over the type of show that we want to broadcast on Cardinal Radio.
No prior radio experience is needed and Cardinal Radio does not require students to have a certain major or minor to participate in the organization. Cardinal Radio is a station that is truly for the students and made by the students.
